Westfield Mall of the Netherlands - Leidschendam: retail development

Leidsenhage shopping centre was transformed into Westfield Mall of the Netherlands in 2021. With this new concept, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) has developed a unique and fully covered shopping centre where experience is central. This is supported by a high level of service for visitors, and the presence of a nearby park and water feature.

Expanding the offer for guests

With a floor area of 117,000 m2, Westfield Mall of the Netherlands offers flagship stores from leading brands, shops from local entrepreneurs and a variety of hip cafés and restaurants. The centre accommodates a 10-screen cinema, food market FRESH! And a dedicated boutique area. The ultra-modern and fully covered building is a remarkable combination of steel, glass and sustainable technology, designed by MVSA Architects in collaboration with the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg.

The renovated shopping centre offers space for more than 230 shops and has 4,000 parking spaces for cars and 1,500 for bikes. What makes this project special is that the shopping centre remained fully operational. That requires careful coordination with current tenants, shoppers, local residents and other stakeholders. And that’s where RYSE provides valuable support for the client.

Quality control and project management

RYSE also takes care of quality control and project management for their client, URW. This includes quality control during construction, monitoring the schedule, and handling handovers and transfers to tenants. RYSE also manages the document process, checks the drawings, and coordinates and communicates with all involved parties.

The new shopping centre was opened on 18 March 2021.
